About Dr. Richman
College Background: I was born in Ohio, but ultimately moved to California to attend Claremont McKenna College, where I played NCAA volleyball and majored in Biology & minored in Spanish.
Shift to Veterinary Medicine: Despite initial nudges toward human medicine from my veterinarian father, I found my true calling in veterinary medicine during my senior year of college. Volunteering at Chino Valley Equine Hospital solidified my decision to pursue a career as a vet.
Admissions Experience: I worked as an interviewer for Claremont McKenna’s Admissions Department, reviewing hundreds of resumes and essays, and conducting numerous interviews. This sharpened my eye for what schools seek in standout applicants.
Post-Grad Journey: I took a gap year as a wards and recovery technician at VCA All Care (ER and specialty hospital) in Orange County, externed at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky, and traveled to Australia.
Vet School Success: I gained acceptance into UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine on my first try. I realized my passion for emergency medicine—drawn by the adrenaline, high-stakes surgeries, and continuous learning.
Relief Work & Entrepreneurship: I chose to work as a relief vet to broaden my network across California and embrace an entrepreneurial approach; this has allowed me to assist many different practices.
Teaching & Mentorship: For over four years, I’ve taught interns and externs, and I use every opportunity to mentor aspiring veterinarians. This includes teaching techs and assistants at each hospital and helping to guide them toward their goals.
